We finally purchased an Euler disk (pronounced “oiler”) from a science catalog. It’s a heavy metal disk that’s designed to oscillate for several minutes when spun on a smooth flat surface. It’s a lot of fun to play with right out of the box, but naturally we wanted to see if lighting it on fire could make it even more fun! We stuck a felt furniture glide to the center and saturated it with isopropyl alcohol. Flames do indeed add an interesting dimension to this fun physics toy.
